Bowl TV to Sponsor NYS USBC Tournaments

Date Posted: February 6th, 2021

Brewster, NY – In response to the ongoing COVID-19 Pandemic, USBC stepped up to help state associations which have been struggling to retain membership. The New York State USBC will receive $10,000 from USBC and Bowl TV to enhance the prize funds for all state tournaments.

“As we all continue to battle this pandemic, it’s great to see USBC step up and help out,” Angelo Corradino, NYSUSBC Association Manager said. “Our membership is down this year, hopefully with the extra money we can get more people out on the lanes.”

The tournament committee met last month when the USBC announced the COVID Aid package to discuss how to allocate the money. It was decided to divide the money based on participation for the nine state tournaments held in 2019. Money will be added to each event according to the chart below. This is the first year of a ten-year commitment by USBC to help return membership to the pre-COVID level and hopefully add more bowlers in years to come.

The youth bowlers will receive their money in the form of scholarships (administered by SMART) which will be awarded at the state finals at Strike & Spare Lanes in Syracuse the first weekend in May. For bowlers to be eligible for the state team finals, they must advance from their regional tournament which will be held in late February and March. There is also an Adult/Junior Tournament open to all bowlers in New York. For more information about NYS Youth Tournaments CLICK HERE.

“We felt it was important to include the kids when we received this money,” Corradino added. “They are the future for this sport, if we can get them to love the game now we will have bowlers for years to come.”

The adult tournaments will start with the NYS Masters at East Greenbush Lanes on March 6. Beginning in April the Women’s Championships will be held at Tonawanda Bowling Center, NYS Queens at AMF Lancaster Lanes and Open Champions at Boulevard Lanes. We will wrap up the season with events for our senior bowlers. The Women’s Senior Singles will be at Roseland Bowl, Senior Open Championship at Vista Lanes, and Senior Masters at Doug Kent Rose Bowl Lanes.

All money will be added to the tournaments for the 2021 Calendar Year.
