Brandon Boyer Captures 2024 New York State Masters Title

Fort Edward, NY – Brandon Boyer captured his first New York State Masters title on Saturday, March 2, 2024 at Broadway Lanes in Fort Edward. The tournament attracted 118 of the top bowlers from across New York State.
“I am speechless,” Boyer said when asked how it feels to be NYS Master Champion. “It’s unfathomable.”
The Qualifying round was five games across 10 lanes, using a staggered cross schedule. We had a custom designed sport shot from Kegel. The day began with at 9:30 AM with 58 bowlers competing in the first squad. Boyer rolled games of 236, 208, 235, 225 and 256 for an 1162 series to finish second place in the squad. Michael Mirabile from Coram was the squad leader with games of 233, 242, 256, 228 and 205 for an 1164 series. The top 12 bowlers in this squad advanced to the Match Play Round.
“They (the lanes) were open during qualifying. I was around 20 at the arrows out to about 7 or 8 and the ball came in nice.” Boyer said when asked about the oil pattern.
The second squad started at 1:30 and had 60 bowlers. Defending champion Paul Bajorski lead the way with games of 247, 238, 205, 225 and 246 for an 1162 series. The top 12 bowlers in this squad also advanced to the Match Play Round.
The rest of the Match Play Field was Mirabile 1164, Boyer 1162, Bajorski 1161, Oscar Miller III 1131, Ryan Galli 1115, Matt Fazzone 1102, Maxwell Benware (Youth) 1096, Del Piccard Jr. 1095, Jon Wilbur 1085, Sandra Maresca 1069, Gary Haines 1069, Jeremy Mazor 1068, Alex Cavagnaro 1067, Roy Vanderbogart 1064, Taylor LeClair 1058, Gerado Urbaez 1051, Justin Barcombe 1042, Ethan Crouse (Youth) 1039, Zachary Bogholtz 1036, Connor LeClair 1031, James Delello 1030, Thomas Sorce 1023, Ryan Bertrand 1022 & Casey Kearney 1017.
Match play consisted of two-game single elimination matches with total pin fall determining the winner. The top eight bowlers earned a bye in round one.
In round one of match play Barcombe rolled 199-237-436 and defeated Urbaez 170-156-326; Kearney 172-242-414 to knock off Wilbur 187-157-344; Cavagnaro 234-235-469 over Connor LeClair 213-217-430; Mazor 215-214-429 to defeat Delello 160-193-353; Crouse 170-213-383 to knock off Taylor LeClair 161-210-371; Bertrand 224-236-460 over Maresca 181-162-343; Vanderbogart 204-223-427 to oust Bogholtz 167-173-340 and Haines 187-202-389 and squeaked by Sorce 171-214385. Those eliminated earned $230
Round two results were Mirabile 227-190-417 over Barcombe 184-217-401; Piccard Jr 236-184-420 defeated Kearney 156-184-340; Cavagnaro 205-200-405 knocked off Miller III 178-165-343; Galli 187-236-423 over Mazor 158-179-337; Boyer 172-219-391 ousted Crouse (Youth) 140-201-341; Bertrand 204-200-404 knocked off Benware (Youth) 186-199-385; Bajorski 221-193-414 over Vanderbogart 169-193-362 and Haines 199-275-474 defeated Fazzone 210-166-376. Those Eliminated earned $300. The youth bowlers will receive scholarship money which will be deposited with USBC SMART Acct# 10118.
In round three Mirabile 241-215-456 defeated Piccard Jr 169-222-391; Cavagnaro 258-207-465 knocked off Galli 203-190-393; Boyer 239-262-501 rolled past Bertrand 174-203-377 and Bajorski 212-258-470 ousted Haines 236-165-401. Those eliminated earned $400.
The final four saw two past champions face off against the top two seeds. Mirabile fired a 256 in game one the followed up with a 213 for a total of 469, his opponent was Cavagnaro who rolled games of 201 and 203. In the other semi-final match Boyer came out hot rolling games 278 and 221, which proved too much for defending champion Bajorski as he rolled games of 202 and 207. Those eliminated earned $550.
This set up the final match between the top two bowlers of the day. Game one was close with Boyer rolling a 181 and Mirabile shot 172. Both bowlers came out strong in game each throwing five strikes in the first six frames. Mir bile then left an 8-10 split on a good ball which Boyer took advantage of, striking on his next three shots to close out the match with a 245, Mirabile second game was 214. Boyer earned $2,000 and a paid entry into the 2025 USBC Masters while Mirabile earned $1000.
“The pattern played flatter in match play and was a little harder.” Boyer continued. “I was able to move a find a line.” He said he will bowl in the USBC Masters next year.
This was Boyer’s first NYS Masters Title. In 2022 he was the Division One NYS Open Doubles Champion with Dillon Greeno. He is also a member of the Adirondack Junior USBC Hall of Fame.
Next year’s event will be at Ripic’s Carousel Lanes in Binghamton on Saturday, March 1, 2025. Applications and online registration will be available in the fall.
