Malone Comes Out Firing in Day 1 of the NYS Senior Open Championships

Yorkville, NY - The 43rd Annual NYS Open Senior Championships is underway at Vista Bowling Center in Yorkville. Jim Malone from Rome was the star of the day rolling three games over 260.
The tournament which runs over two weekends, consists of 3 events – doubles, singles and six-game combine. The champions in the six-game combine event will paid entry to the 2022 USBC Senior Championships.
In the first squad of the day, Malone shot 277, 267, 215 for a 759 series. His doubles partner Steve Berthold, also from Rome, rolled a high game of 247 with a 653 series. Their combined total, with handicap, is 1467 which has them sitting in first place in Division C.
Malone started out squad two with a bang rolling 279 in route to 696 series which catapulted him to first place in Division A. He is also in First Place in the Combine Event for Class A with a 1545 for six games, including handicap.
Other top performers were Dave Demperio from Syracuse with a high game of 279 and 645 series. Doug Matteson from Peekskill rolled a 267 and 674. And Bill Owens of Utica 245, 258, 238 for 741 series. Owens is currently in first place for Class C Singles.
There are more squads tomorrow, Sunday, October 17 at 12:00 PM and 2:30 PM as well as next Sunday, October 24 at 2:30 PM and 5:00 PM. Please note the all other scheduled squads on Saturday, October 23 and Sunday, October 24 are sold out.
Walk-ons are accepted in each squad if space permits, each event is $30 per bowler with and optional 6-game combine for $10. You can bowl doubles only, singles only or both doubles and singles.
