Shannon Sellens Claims Sixth NYS Queens Championship Title

Corning, NY — April 11, 2026 — The 2026 New York State Queens Championship concluded Saturday at Crystal Lanes in Corning, featuring top‑level competition for female bowlers from across the state and crowning winners in multiple divisions.

Open Division

The Open Division, which drew 62 competitors, was highlighted by another dominant performance from Shannon Sellens of Long Beach, who captured the championship title by defeating Liz Kuhlkin of Schenectady, 214–174, in the title match. Sellens earned $900 for her victory, while Kuhlkin collected $600 as runner‑up.

With the win, Sellens secured her 6th NYS Queens title, adding to championships previously won in 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2025.

Qualifying honors went to Jennifer Close of North Syracuse, who led the field with an impressive five‑game total of 1,197. The stepladder finalists were determined by average scores during competition play and included Shannon Sellens, Liz Kuhlkin, Stephanie Casey of Yonkers, and Dianna Cazzalino of Bellmore.

Classified Division

In the Classified Division, featuring 38 entries, Kyra Walter of West Babylon emerged victorious after winning the title match 189–182 over Shannon Pappas of Latham. Walter earned an $800 SMART scholarship, while Pappas received $500.

Walter also led the qualifying round with a total score of 1,008 and remained undefeated through match play and stepladder competition.

50+ Bonus Virtual Division

The 50+ Bonus Virtual Division attracted 24 competitors, with Deb Capullo of Schenectady claiming top honors after posting a five‑game total of 1,073, earning $130. She was followed by Michelle Sterner of Niagara Falls, who finished with 1,027 and earned $70, and Kathy Peters of Binghamton, who totaled 1,016 for $40.
